Eugene Lundrigan is President, Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc., a Sun Life Financial business that offers investment solutions to defined benefit pension plan clients and other institutional investors.
Previously, Eugene was Head of Business Strategy for Sun Life Investment Management, Sun Life Financial’s third-party institutional investment management platform where he had accountability for business strategy, product development, consultant relations and marketing. Eugene has over 25 years of experience in financial services and an extensive background in investments, investment governance, strategy and marketing. Following roles at the Bank of Canada, he joined Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (Sun Life) in 1997 and has held a range of senior level positions, including Senior Managing Director of Canadian Public Fixed Income, various leadership roles in wealth management, marketing and strategy in Asia and head of the International Investment Centre that manages Sun Life’s relationships with investment managers around the world. Eugene sits on the Shaw Festival Board of Trustees and the Public Policy Committee of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance.
Raised in Baie Verte, Newfoundland, Eugene has a Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University and an MBA (Finance) from McMaster University. He is also a CFA Charterholder and member of the Toronto CFA society.
Heather Wolfe is Senior Managing Director, Head of Business Development and Client Relationships, Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc. Heather is responsible for achieving Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc.’s sales targets and delivering excellent client service. She also works closely with Bentall Kennedy and the Defined Benefit (DB) Solutions team to coordinate our client-facing activities in the marketplace.
Heather joined Sun Life in 2011 to help grow the DB Solutions business. She was Managing Director, Client Relationships, leading the sales, service and marketing teams for DB Solutions until the end of 2017.
In 2018, Heather took on the role of Managing Director, LDI Strategy, where she was responsible for creating and selling customized investment solutions to Canadian institutional investors. Through both roles, Heather has worked closely with Sun Life Investment Management, including Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc. to meet the needs of Canadian institutional investors.
Prior to joining Sun Life, Heather held senior roles at TD Bank (AVP, Retirement & Savings Plans) and Mercer (Consulting Actuary). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto and is a qualified actuary in the U.K., Canada and the U.S.
Candace is Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Private Fixed Income for Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc. She is the portfolio manager for the Sun Life private fixed income funds with responsibility for the management and performance of the funds.
Candace is also Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Private Fixed Income for Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada where she oversees an extensive team of professionals in Canada and the United States. The team manages one of the largest private fixed income portfolios in North America, comprising private debt, mid-market loans, project finance loans and private securitizations across a variety of industries.
Having joined Sun Life Financial in 1987, Candace quickly progressed in her investment positions in the company’s Canadian, UK and Corporate operations. Candace has significant investment experience in addressing Sun Life Financial’s invested asset portfolio and other credit-related activities as well as the management of investment portfolios, investment teams and governance functions.
In her previous role as Chief Credit Risk Officer. Candace played a critical role in the credit risk management of private fixed income investments working in partnership with the private fixed income group. In this capacity, Candace and her team of 22 credit, asset liability management, and market risk professionals were responsible for a credit portfolio of approximately C$110 billion as well as a real estate portfolio of approximately C$8 billion.
Prior to becoming the Chief Credit Risk Officer, Candace was Senior Managing Director, Portfolio Management and International Investments. In this dual role, Candace was responsible for developing portfolio strategies and best practices for Sun Life Financial’s worldwide invested assets as well as overseeing the company’s international investment operations outside North America. Candace was responsible for the North American bond portfolio of approximately C$60 Billion.
Phil is Executive Vice-President and Portfolio Manager for Bentall Kennedy (Canada) Limited Partnership and Sun Life Investment Management.
Phil oversees Canadian Property Investments for the General Account of the Sun Life Financial Group of Companies, with responsibility for its large portfolio of Canadian commercial mortgages and real estate investments. In addition, Phil is the Chair of Sun Life Financial’s International Sustainability Council.
Phil is also Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for the Sun Life Canadian Commercial Mortgage Fund, with responsibility for the management and performance of the fund.
Phil has over 36 years’ experience in the property investment sector. He joined Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in 1998 as Vice-President of Canadian Real Estate, overseeing the growth and enhancing the management of the portfolio, and was appointed as Senior Managing Director and Head of Canadian Real Estate in 2007. Phil’s responsibilities were expanded in 2012 to also include Canadian commercial mortgages. Prior to joining Sun Life Assurance Company, Phil managed the real estate assets at one of Canada’s largest retailers, and prior to that he with was one of North America’s largest real estate companies.
Phil speaks frequently on property investment topics and is very active in industry and community organizations. Among others, he is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (known as NAIOP) and the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Urban Land Institute and serves on the Real Estate Advisory Board of the Schulich School of Business.
Phil holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from the Schulich School of Business. He is also a Certified Management Accountant/Certified Public Accountant.
Doug is Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Public Fixed Income and Derivatives for Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc. He is a portfolio manager for the Sun Life Private Fixed Income Plus Fund, the Sun Life Long Term Private Fixed Income Plus Fund and the Sun Life Canadian Commercial Mortgage Fund, with responsibility for the management and performance of the Funds.
Doug is also Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Public Fixed Income and Derivatives for The Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada and is responsible for investment activities in the public fixed income and derivatives markets in the General Account portfolios in Canada, the U.S. and U.K.
Doug has over two decades of investment experience at major Canadian financial institutions managing insurance and pension fund assets. He joined Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in 2001, was named Senior Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Canadian and U.K. Public Fixed Income in 2007, and appointed to his current position in 2014.
Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia University. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Toronto CFA Society.
Randall is Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Canadian Public Fixed Income for Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc. He is a portfolio manager for the Sun Life Private Fixed Income Plus Fund and the Sun Life Long Term Private Fixed Income Plus Fund, with responsibility for the management and performance of the Funds.
Randall is also Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Canadian Public Fixed Income for Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, responsible for managing portfolios of Canadian fixed income investments for the company’s General Account.
Randall has over 20 years’ experience in financial markets at leading financial organizations in Canada, initially as a trader and progressing to managing a wide variety of public fixed income strategies and investment products. Prior to joining Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in 2013, he had roles at a major Canadian pension plan implementing and managing its credit long/short strategy and then as Trader/Portfolio Manager in its Global Capital Markets division. Randall also previously worked at an exchange traded fund manager managing fixed income, structured index and money market portfolios as well as being part of the team that introduced innovative products to the Canadian marketplace, including the country’s first fixed income exchange-traded funds. Earlier in his career Randall held roles at two major Canadian banks and a securities dealer.
Randall has a Bachelor of Arts and a Management Studies Diploma from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Science in International Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Toronto CFA Society.
Steve is Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Liability Driven Investments (LDI) for Sun Life Institutional Investments (Canada) Inc. He leads the LDI team in developing solutions for plan sponsors seeking to reduce risk and volatility in their defined benefit pension plans.
Steve is also Managing Director and Portfolio Manager, Liability Driven Investments for Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada where he works jointly with its Investments and Defined Benefit Solutions teams.
Steve has an extensive range of investment experience across 25 years in Canadian and international markets spanning asset liability management, pension fund management, portfolio management, international lending, domestic commercial banking and risk management.
Following roles at the Export Development Corporation and Royal Bank of Canada, Steve joined Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in 1997 and held a variety of investment responsibilities in Canada, the United Kingdom and Asia. These included asset and portfolio management roles, investment governance, investment activities for merger and acquisitions transactions, and serving on the company’s pension plan committees.
During 2011-2013, Steve held a senior investment management position at one of Canada’s largest defined benefit pension plans, building up and managing its in-house fixed income and derivatives team as well as assessing other asset class opportunities and conducting selections of third-party fund managers. He rejoined Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada in 2013.
Raised in Dorchester, Ontario, Steve holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and an M.B.A. (International Business) from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. He is a CFA Charterholder and member of the Toronto CFA society.
